I'm not one for the emotional threads, but it is bugging me.

I appreciate he's not been the same player.

I was sitting infront of people who were calling him fat, useless, lazy and a pie boy at Newcastle. He's getting a roasting on here again today.

The difference in McSheffrey is he doesn't want to take players on.

He's a human being. He's so scared of making a mistake he tenses up and his normal game can't flow naturally. Partly we owe this to ourselves. He reads these boards, he knows what you say.

Look at Morten Gamst Pedersen, one of the PL's best wingers for the past couple of years. On the bench for Blackburn, HATED by their fans and now can't hit a barn door.

McSheffrey is absolutely trying his bottom off for Birmingham. He runs up and down the pitch all day long.

If you're a Bloo you're not in it for the glory, you're here because you're a supporter.

He's not a big time charlie. He's a down to earth guy who does his best for his team.

You moan because you think McLeish doesn't realise he's not in form. You moan because you want McSheffrey to know he's not playing well (like he doesn't know!?) and because you think he's not trying hard enough.

He is TRYING. The only way he will break his duck of bad form is with confidence. Ultimately, he is a BLUES player. And while he's positive about the club and gives us his best efforts, we should be giving him our FULL support.

I'm disappointed in our supporters. The atmosphere is worse than the performances sometimes.

We all love Blues, Mcsheffrey is part of that. Let's show it.

I think McSheffrey and his loss of form is a strange one. When he joined the club he looked quality but even then it looked like his lack of pace for the position he plays meant he would probably struggle in the Premiership if we got promoted. I think he hasn’t played well since Dec 06 and he doesn’t appear to have the quality to thrive in the Premier League. But hey ho what do I know I’ll still back him if he’s in the team and would be more than happy for him to prove me wrong.

Great thread. I agree with the sentiments exactly. But, if thats the case, perhaps its best for all parties involved if he just moves on? Sounds a bit unfair, but I can't see him getting his form back again unless its with another club.

I hope he proves before the end of the season that he's still the player he was. I even got his name on the back of my shirt at the beginning of the season, the first time I've had a players name on the back of my shirt since I was a kid and got Seaman on the back of England goalkeeper shirt during Euro 96 (keep your puns to yourself!).

Do you actually think the blues player read the forums?, Never really thought about it before.... :P

I really hope Mcsheff finds his form again because we have all seen he has quality!

I totally agree. We as fans are the most impatient, moaning unsupportive bunch of people I know. Each game we find a scapegoat which we watch every move on and criticise every mistake, forgetting any good moves. I agree that Sheffers is off his game at the moment, but we all know what he is capable of and tutting and moaning at every mistake is not going to help him get over his problems one iota. We all have a right to voice our opinions but half the time its only to 'big ourselves up, that we know about football' because it certainly doesn't help the player. Sheffers is an excellent player that is struggling at the moment; he needs games and support to build himself back up (although maybe this should be in the reserves once Kapo is back).

Honestly, why do people think its a "loss of form"?????

Its not, the simple answer is staring us in the face.... he's simply no where neer good enough for the premier league... simple as. hes quality in the championshio, but that no where near the same level!!

if any1 disagrees please say!!

totally agree !!!

he is a profesional, paid well , enjoys the acolades......let us not make excuses....

yesterdays game says it all, missed a sitter.........his free kicks were a mile out, his crosses were terrible and he lost the ball several times.

plenty of marothon runners will run all day, we can't put them on the field and call them footballers..

several of our players are not good enough for this league...........all credit to them for doing ther best, however it is pointless deluding ourselves and blaming "poor form"

Alex is doing a great job in the circumstances, just hope he uses de riddier when the chips are down and we need a goal.

Honestly i do not rate McSheffrey, he is greedy at the wrong times and selfless at the wrong times! Granted he did a brilliant job last year, but thats against Leeds and Burnley etc. Even Clem did brilliant last year but he still didnt offer enough in the prem. Sad to say it in a way, glad in another but let him go AM.

How does that explain his loss off form since Dec 06? Granted his lack of pace for the position he plays was always going to be a problem but his lack of form goes beyond that. AJ showed little of what he would later achieve whilst at the blues but he went on to bigger and better things. Most foreign players take a year to settle into the Premiership so it’s a bit unfair to judge McSheffrey in his fist season in the Prem. It appears he has found it tough in the Premiership, a similar situation to the majority of our players’ hence our position in the league.

Sorry, but I disagree entirely. There seems to be this misconception that Blues fans in particular are so impatient and unforgiving, and that they actually enjoy having a moan about players.

I've been going to Blues for almost half a century and have never seen them win a trophy of any note, other than perhaps the play-off final at Cardiff. Most established Premiership sides would regard being in the lower tier as a disaster and therefore view winning a play-off final as being the very least they should achieve were they ever to fall from the top flight.

Yet the euphoria that I saw from Blues fans that day epitomised what they are extremely grateful for even the most modest of success stories. It was a similar story for the Auto-Windshield Trophy - an honour that many fans would say is an embarrasment for a club the size of Birmingham. Yet we celebrated with ghusto winning it.

So are fans impatient? 50-years of not wining a meaningfull trophy and much of that time being spent outside of the top flight yet we still persevere. And I'm by no means a super-supporter. I only rarely travel away. I know fans who have rarely missed any games, both home and away, in that time and longer. Are they really impatient?

Go to any ground anywhere in the world and you will hear fans moaning when things dont go right. Blues fans are no different - but to believe that we are the worst is niaive. The moans from Arsenal's fans about some of their own players during THAT game was evident to me, sat in the Kop Corner. And their forum afterwards (apart from slating a certain Blues player) was full of remarks slating certain of their own players. And they were on top of the Premiership at the time!

I disagree that we moan about individual players to 'big ourselves up' and frankly I find the comment bewildering. Players like McSheffrey and Ridgewll have been poor this season. Moaning about them on here wont make them play better - but neither will it make them play any worse. McSheffrey had half a good season in the Championship. During the latter half of our promotion season he was quite poor. The step up to the Premiership has seen that poor form continue - only here his poor form is all the more evident. If the step up is too much (as it is for many players who have shone at the lower level) then sooner or later we have to accept that. These sorts of opinions will always be expressed on forum like these.

I think many fans wonder why an out of form McSheffrey is preferred to the out of favour De Ridder. That is why there are sometimes audible moans when yet another move breaks down with him. If he needs to re-capture his form, a relegation threatened first team isnt the place to do it while there are alternatives. De Ridder made three goals in the reserves in the week. If there is any frustration it's because that type of good form isn't being rewarded.

We moan because we care - just like every other set of fans anywhere. It's not a Birmingham trait - it's a football fans trait.

The term most often associated with Blues fans is 'long-suffering', often heard or read in the press and media, so to say that we are 'impatient' is laughable. We may be born, support all of our lives, and die without ever seeing the club lift a major trophy. Many have. Impatient? I dont think so!

Agreed, he hasnt been able to make the step up in class to the Prem,

If we go down keep him, stay up sell him.

Cant fault his effort, he just hasnt got enough quality for this league, which is not his fault.

We cant keep playing someone whos out of sorts everygame thats like playing with 10 men everygame,He is playing on the wing FFS ,thats his job to take people on and get those important crosses in,and if he cant do that then no sentiments involved he should be dropped and someone else given a go weather they are out of position or not, cant get any worse than what it allready is,for the remaining games we need 11 men out on that pitch playing their hearts out from now till the end of the season :banghead:

I said in another thread that I have run out of excuses for him now. However I like the guy and believe he can be a good player again. I also believe that it is a valid point that us tutting and gasping at him throughout the game must have shot his confidence to pieces. I had a conversation with one of our players recently and he said that when the fans all groan when you touch the ball it makes you so wary the next time, that you are reluctant to touch it, or you become so nervous that you fluff it. That came from someone who knows, who is out there week in week out. Maybe on Saturday we try singing his name and encouraging him?

imo opinion mcsheffrey has only ever played well when a certain nicklas bendtner was here. They linked up well and up until january all our goals where comin from and being created from one of these two players. then Bendtner went of the boil and so did mcsheffrey. I think for Sheffers to be a good player he needs a creative, vision, hold up player who can feed him and who he can work with. We havent got this type of player at the club. Imo i would like to see Kapo playing off say forse or zarate and sheffers on the wing and i then think we may see the best out of him. Kapo is a inteligent player and sheffers makes inteligent runs. Last year, ok maybe a few times he took on a player and wiped the ball in but most of the times he was in space, free and being played in.

Your bang on Mandy. using this board as an example, in the recent past we have had people absolutely slaughtering players, Johnson being a prime target his crime. he just gets on with his job to a consistent level that 2 managers have picked him regulary.

Julian Gray was subject to months of abuse. Abuse from his own so called fans, those that are quick to say they support the team...me thinks they do not know the meaning of the word.

Bendtner,Martin Taylor, Franc Quedrue,Kapo,Melchiot,Izzet, the list goes on and on. sadly McSheffery is just another to addition to the list.....

Having been going to games at St Andrews for the last 40 odd years i have to say that this breed of blues fans is by far the most hateful, fickle, least knowledgeable i can remember.

i dont blame any player for our poor performances. Yes players have good bad and dreadfull games and players always make mistakes. I really dont know why DJ was droped against Reading because i thought he had been playing well. the only time i critise players is if they look like they cant be botherd. I.E jerome against newcastle. I thought Yesterday sheffers played well but the final ball was lacking, The same with lennon he has gone off the boil but Spurs fans dont slate him. I agree that we need to get behind the players, but i think the players them self need to help sheffers aswell Some times he gets rediculous balls and theres sometimes only 2 players in the box for him to aim at. He is never going to be succesfull with that.

Aaron Lennon has 9 England caps and is only 20 years old.
Gary McSheffrey has 0 England caps and is 25 AND has spent close to all of his career in the championship where as Lennon has only played Premiership with Leeds and Tottenham.

I can see why spurs are more patient with lennon than we are with mcsheffrey.

but surely if he has played for england and has loads of caps for spurs then that end quality should be there where as with mcsheffrey this is his first season in the premiership so he has to try and adjust and get use to it. To me i would think that spurs fans would be frustrated that lennon is losing it and not his old self, even with experiance.

I dont see your point with caps apart from more experiance, which surely would help lennon and be used to the premiership, but his not he cant do nothing right
